Acknowledging Paul and His Companions 2 Corinthians 1:14

Paul the apostle continued to share with the church members in Corinth as he told them he and his companions, write none other things unto you, than what you read or acknowledge”, and in chapter one and verse fourteen of Second Corinthians, Paul referred to how the church members, “acknowledged us in part”, where we read:

As also you have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing,
even as you also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

The verse begins, “As also you have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing,Paul began with the words, “as also” which means “and even as and indeed” “you” or “the church members” “have acknowledged us” which means “become thoroughly acquainted with Paul and his companions or knew thoroughly and accurately” “in part” or “in measure, to some degree, severally and in particular”, “that we” which means “Paul and his companions” “are your rejoicing” or “the church members' glory and boast”. Not only did the church member “read and acknowledge” Paul and his companion's words, but they also became “acquainted thoroughly” with Paul and his companions themselves.

The verse continues, even as you also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus. Paul added the words, “even as you also” which means “in the same manner as the church members” “are ours” which refers to the “Paul and his companions” “in the day” or “within the time” “of the Lord” or “of he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah” “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate”. Paul and his companions also were “acquainted with thoroughly” the church members in “Jesus' day”.

When we meditate upon these words from Paul, we see how important it was that the church members be as “acquainted” with him as he was with them. The “fellowship” between them was essential and equal to keeping and acknowledging his words. Jesus Christ desires intimacy with people, and when they give their lives to Him through faith, they not only “acknowledge” His words, but also enjoy “fellowship” with Him as well.

Next time Paul shares with the church members how he and his companions were, “minded to come unto you before, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
