Paul
the apostle declared to the church members in Corinth, “O
death, where is
your sting? O grave, where is
your victory?”,
and wrote, “the sting of death is
sin; and the strength of sin is the law”.
In chapter fifteen and verse fifty-seven
of First Corinthians, Paul told the church members how he thanks God
who, “gives us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ”, where
we read:
But
thanks be
to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The
verse begins, “But
thanks be
to God, which gives us the victory...”
Paul began
with the word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “thanks”
or “that
which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness,
goodwill, loving-kindness and unmerited favor” “be
to God”
which means “be toward the Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”,
“which gives us”
or “that grants, supplies, furnishes, gives order and delivers”
“the victory”
which means “in triumph and conquest”. Paul thanked “God” for
His “triumph and conquest” over “death”.
The
verse continues, “...through
our Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul
added the words, “through our Lord”
which means
“by
way of Paul and the church members' to whom a person or thing
belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title
that was given to God the Messiah”
“Jesus”
which means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God,
Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ”
which means “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”.
The “victory”
over “death”
comes by way of “Jesus”.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we see his praise and
appreciation to God for the “victory” that He has provided
over “death”. It is only through “Jesus” that
“death” has been conquered, and though everyone shall face
certain “death”, those who believe in Jesus as “Savior
and Lord” are promised “everlasting life”. May all who read
these words give honor and praise to God the Father for His wonderful
“eternal salvation” plan.
Next
time Paul shares with
the church members how,
“be
steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
