Paul
the apostle instructed the church members in Corinth, “Be
not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”,
and in
chapter fifteen and verse thirty-four of First Corinthians, Paul told
the church members in Corinth to, “awake to
righteousness, and sin not”, where
we read:
Awake
to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of
God:
The
verse begins, “Awake
to righteousness, and sin not;”
Paul began
with the word, “Awake” which
literally means “to return to one's self from drunkenness or become
sober” and metaphorically means “to return to soberness of mind”
“to righteousness”
which means “toward being just, agreeably to right, properly,
uprightly and agreeable to the law of rectitude”, “and
sin not”
or “and do not miss the mark, err, be mistaken, wander from the
path of uprightness and honor or do or go wrong”. Paul challenged
the Corinthians to “wake up” toward “right living” and keep
from “sin”.
The
verse continues, “
for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this
to your shame.” Paul
added the words, “for some” which
means “because certain ones” “have
not the knowledge”
which means “are ignorant” “of
God” which
means “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the
Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”: “I
speak this”
or “Paul uttered, declared and proclaimed about not sining and
being ignorant” “to your shame”
which means “to the church members' confusion”. Paul said the
reason the church members were to “wake up” toward “right
living” and keeping from “sin”
was because there were people who had “no knowledge of God”, and
this was a “shame”
for the church members.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see how he challenged them
to “wake up” and keep from “sin”, because there were
people who did not have “the knowledge of God” around
them. This was a “shame” according to Paul the apostle,
and because Jesus desires that everyone know His “gospel”, we
should be certain we live in “righteousness”, keep away
from “sin” and share Jesus with everyone who does not have
the “knowledge of God”.
Next
time Paul shares with
the church members they way some people ask,
“How are the dead raised
up?”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
