Paul the apostle
proclaimed “Grace
be to you and
peace” to
the church members in Corinth as he
continued his introduction to this second letter to them,
and in chapter one and verse three
Paul continued his introductory greeting by blessing, “God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”,
where we read:
the Father
of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
The verse begins, “Blessed be
God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ...”
Paul began with the word, “Blessed”
which means “adorable and praised” “be
God” or “the Godhead bodily and trinity
which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy
Spirit” “even the
Father” or “also and indeed the
originator and transmitter of everyone and everything” “of
our Lord” or
“Paul and the church members' one to whom a person or thing belongs
about which he has power of deciding and the title give to God the
Messiah” “Jesus”
whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God,
the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ”
or “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”. Paul
“blessed” God who
is the “originator and transmitter of everyone and everything”
including “Jesus”
who is the Messiah as well.
The verse goes on to say,
“... the Father
of mercies, and the God of all comfort;”
Paul added the words, “the father” which
means “the originator and transmitter of
everyone and everything” “of
mercies” which refers to “compassion,
pity and longings”, “and the God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “of
all” or “of each, every, the whole and
everyone” “comfort”
which means “calling near, summons, importation, supplication,
entreaty, exhortation, admonition and encouragement”. Paul noted
how God is the “originator and transmitter” of “pity and
compassion”, and He is also the “God” of “calling near,
exhorting and encouragement”.
When we meditate upon
these words from Paul, we see how he “praises” God and declares
Him to be “the originator and transmitter” of “Jesus,
mercies and comfort”. God desires to have a relationship with
every person, and as we understand how Paul characterized Him, we
should be attracted to the “Father of Jesus, mercies and
comfort”. May all who read these words know the God of Paul the
apostle, and let everyone yield their lives to Him.
Next
time Paul writes how God, “comforts
us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which
are in any trouble”,
so read ahead, and we shall join
together then.
