Paul the apostle completed
his first letter to the church members in Corinth as he wrote, “my
love be with you all in Christ Jesus”,
and in his second letter to the
Corinthian church in chapter one and verse one Paul began this letter
by introducing himself as, “Paul, and
apostle of Jesus Christ”,
where we read:
Paul, an
apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our
brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the
saints which are in all Achaia:
The verse begins, “Paul,
an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our
brother, ...” Paul
began with the word, “Paul” whose
name means “small or little” and was “the most famous of the
apostles who wrote a good part of the New Testament which are known
as the fourteen Pauline epistles”, “an
apostle” or “a delegate, messenger or one
sent forth with orders” “of
Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is
Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God
incarnate” “Christ”
or “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God” “by
the will” or “through what one wishes or
has determined shall be done” “of God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and
trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the
Holy Spirit”, “and Timothy”
whose name means “honoring God” who was “a resident of Lystra,
apparently, whose father was a Greek and mother a Jewess, and he was
Paul's traveling companion and fellow laborer” “our
brother” or “Paul and his companion's
fellow believer who is united to others by the bond of affection”.
Paul knew “God” the “Father” called him to be “one sent
out” along with his protege' “Timothy”.
The verse goes on to say,
“...unto the
church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in
all Achaia:”
Paul added the words, “unto the church”
which means “to the assembly of Christians
gathered for worship in a religious meeting” “of
God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily
and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and
the Holy Spirit” “which is at Corinth”
or “that is located in “satiated” which was an ancient and
famous city of Greece on the Isthmus of Corinth and about forty miles
west of Athens, “with all”
or “along and beside each, every, the whole and everyone of” “the
saints” which refers to “the pure,
morally, religiously and ceremonially consecrated” “which
are in all” or “that are located
everywhere in” “Achaia”
which means “trouble” and was “in a restricted sense, the
maritime region of northern Peloponnesus and in a broader sense, a
Roman province embracing all Greece except Thessaly”. Paul wrote
this letter to the Corinthian “church of God” as well as all the
“fellow believers” which were in “Achaia”.
When we think through
these words from Paul, we discover to whom this letter was addressed.
Paul and Timothy were together, and “the church of God at
Corinth” as well as “all the saints” in “Achaia”
were on their hearts. God desires for “everyone” to to receive
His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, and once they do, they
become a part of His church and among “all the saints”. As
we study these scriptures, let us allow the Holy Spirit to teach us
what He desires to say to us “all”.
Next
time we begin the
second book of Corinthians as Paul repeats
an introduction of himself and Timothy as well,
so read ahead,
and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
