Paul the apostle continued
to share with the church members in Corinth as he told them,“you
have acknowledged us in part, that we were your rejoicing”,
and in chapter one and verse fifteen of
Second Corinthians, Paul told the the church members he was, “minded
to come unto you before”,
where we read:
And in
this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that you might
have a second benefit;
The verse begins, “And
in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, ...”
Paul began with the words, “and in this” which
means “in what Paul is about to declare” “confidence”
or “trust or reliance” “I was minded” which
means “Paul desired, deliberately willed, intended and
purposed” “to come” or “to arise, show forth, find
place and influence” “unto you” which means “to the
church members” “before” or “at a prior or former
time”. Paul at a “prior time” “deliberately willed, intended
and desired” to “come” to the church members.
The verse goes on to say,
“that you might
have a second benefit;”
Paul continued with the words, “that you
might have” which means “so the church
members would hold, own and possess” “a
second” which means “again and
secondarily a” “benefit”
which is the Greek word “charis” which means “that which
affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness and
unmerited favor”. Paul wanted the Corinthian church members to be
“graciously blessed” another time by his visit.
When we think through
these words from Paul, we see more of his care for the church
members. Paul wanted desperately to visit with them to continue the
“fellowship” they had together. This is a wonderful example of
leadership within the church. Paul not only conveyed and delivered
the “gospel of Jesus Christ” to the Corinthians, but he
followed up with care and concern for them afterwards. Jesus desires
to have a lasting relationship with people all over the world, and He
is “minded to come unto you” no matter where you are.
Next
time Paul tells the
church members he was, “to
pass by you into Macedonia”,
so read
ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
