Word Not Yes and No 2 Corinthians 1:18

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth how he was “therefore thus minded, did I use lightness?”. He added, “the things that I purpose, I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yes yes, and no no”. In chapter one and verse eighteen of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members, “our word toward you was not yes and no”, where we read:

But as God is true, our word toward you was not yes and no.

The verse begins, “But as God is true,...Paul began with the word, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “as God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “is true” which means “is trusty, can be relied upon and easily persuaded”. Paul employed the “faithfulness” of “God” for his next evidence of his own declarations.

The verse goes on to say, ...our word toward you was not yes and no. Paul added the words, “our word” which means “Paul and his companion's speech, sayings, decrees and mandates” “toward you” which means “to the church members” “was not yes” or “was not verily, truly, assuredly and even so” “and no” which means “and not or nothing”. Paul declared his speech toward the church members was not a back and forth “yes and no” wavering commitment and speech.

When we think through these words from Paul, we see how he declared “God” to be trustworthy and relied upon. Since this was true, Paul's words were from the Lord, and his words to the Corinthians were not wavering back and forth but in alignment with God's. Jesus Christ desires a relationship with everyone that is based upon His “faithfulness” and the “truth”, and when people receive Him as Lord and Savior, they have come to the one who declared, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6), and those who are wise shall know and obey Jesus' unwavering words.

Next time Paul shares how Jesus, “was not yes and no, but in him was yes, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
