Somebody Touched Jesus - Luke 8:46

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house. For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng you and press you, and say you, Who touched me?”, and in chapter eight and verse forty-six of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “somebody has touched me” where we read:

And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

The verse reads, “And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: Luke began with the words, “and Jesus said” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “who touched me” which means “what person fastened themselves, adhere to and clung to Jesus”? “When all denied” or “at the time and moment each, every, the whole and everyone of the people ”, “Peter” which refers to “one of Jesus' disciples whose name means a little rock or stone” “and they that were with him” which means “and the other disciples who were alongside Peter”, “said” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Luke shared how Jesus declared that someone within the crowd “clung to” Him.

The verse continues, “for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” Luke added the words, “for I perceive” which means “because, since and on account that I, Jesus, know, understand and am aware” “that virtue is gone” or “that strength, power and ability for performing miracles” “out of me” which means “has gone forth, emitted and flowed from Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus knew “power and ability” flowed forth from Him, and this is why Jesus questioned who “touched” Him.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was able to detect when someone “touched” Him in a way that “power” was released from Him. When the woman with the “issue of blood” “touched” Jesus, “virtue” went forth from Him and the woman was healed. This caused Jesus to question who “touched” Him because this was a different “touch” than the others who surrounded Him. God loves for people to “reach out” and “touch” Him through His Son Jesus, and when they “touch” Him by faith, not only will He forgive their sins, but He will also send forth His power to help them where they are and grant them “everlasting life”. May all who consider the “touch” of this woman who was “acknowledged” by Jesus yield their lives to Him and allow Him to work in their lives today.

Next time Luke shares how, “the woman saw that she was not hid”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
