The Woman was Not Hid - Luke 8:47

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “ a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng you and press you, and say you, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.”, and in chapter eight and verse forty-seven of his book Luke shared how, the woman saw that she was not hidwhere we read:

And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

The verse reads,And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, ...” Luke began with the words, “and when the woman” or “and at the time and moment the female human being with the issue of blood” “saw that she was not hid” which means “perceived, understood and discerned that she was not in secret, without knowing or hidden from Jesus”, “she came trembling” or “the woman arose and appeared in a dreadfully fearful and afraid state”, “and falling down before him” which means “and prostrating herself in front and in the presence of Jesus” did the following. Luke shared how the woman with the issue of blood knew she was not “hidden” from Jesus, so she fell at his feet in great fear.

The verse goes on to say, “... she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.” Luke added the words, “she declared unto him” which means “the woman proclaimed, made known openly, brought word and reported to Jesus” “before all the people” or “in front and in the presence of each, every, the whole and everyone of the people in the crowd surrounding Him” “for what cause she had touched him” which means “the reason why she fastened, adhered and clung to Jesus”, “and how she was healed” or “even as and indeed the woman was cured and made whole” “immediately” which means “straightway and forthwith”. Luke shared how the woman told all the people the reason she “fastened” herself to Jesus and how she was cured as soon as she “touched” Him.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how the woman felt the pressure of being exposed by Jesus, so she fell at His feet and confessed before everyone in the crowd the reason why she “touched” Him and what happened when she did. This woman had suffered with her illness for twelve long years, and she believed if she could just “touch” the hem of His garment, she would be made whole. Jesus did not disappoint her, and now she was proclaiming before a crowd the wonderful work performed within her. God loves to minister to people through His Son Jesus, and He knows their every need. When a person reaches out to “touch” Jesus in a spiritual manner, not only will they be “cured” of their “sin”, but they will be inclined to tell everyone what Jesus did in their lives. Let all who read these words follow the lead of this woman who was healed because she reached out and touched Jesus.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus said, “daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you whole”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
