The Maid Arises - Luke 8:55

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus healed a woman with an issue of blood while He was journeying to Jairus' house to help his daughter, and while He spoke to the woman, “there came one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Your daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise”, and in chapter eight and verse fifty-five of his book Luke shared how Jairus' daughter's, “spirit came again, and she arose straightway” at Jesus where we read:

And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.

The verse reads, “And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: Luke began with the words, “and her spirit or “and Jairus' daughter's simple essence, devoid of all or at least all grosser matter, and possessed of the power of knowing, desiring, deciding and acting” “came again” which means “reverted, turned back and returned”, “and she arose straightway” or “and Jairus' daughter immediately and forthwith arose, appeared and stood forth”. Luke shared how the “spirit” of Jairus' daughter returned to her and she got up right away.

The verse goes on to say “and he commanded to give her meat.” Luke continued with the words, “and he commanded” which means “and Jesus ordered, instructed and appointed” “to give her meat” or “to grant, bestow and deliver to Jairus' daughter food to consume”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed people to feed Jairus' daughter after she arose from the dead.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' miracle was performed upon this little girl. Jesus also cared for Jairus' daughter's physical needs as He instructed people to feed her. God not only cares for the spiritual needs of people, but also the physical ones as well. Jesus demonstrated His power over death, and even when “doubters” were in the area, He did His work anyway. God loves people, and He wants to have a relationship with them through His Son Jesus Christ. Those who are wise will carefully examine all Jesus' works and receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Let all who are “spiritually dead” come alive by the power of Jesus Christ working in their lives.

Next time Luke shares how the little girl's, “parents were astonished”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
