Your Faith has Made You Whole - Luke 8:48

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus was on His way to Jairus' house to help his daughter, when “a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng you and press you, and say you, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately”, and in chapter eight and verse forty-eight of his book Luke shared how Jesus said to the woman, “daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you whole” where we read:

And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you whole; go in peace.

The verse reads, “And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: Luke began with the words, “and he said unto her” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the woman with the issue of blood”, “Daughter” which means “female descendant of God”, “be of good comfort” or “be encouraged and of good cheer”. Luke shared how Jesus told the woman to “be of good cheer” for the following reason.

The verse continues, “your faith has made you whole; go in peace.” Luke added the words, “your faith has made you whole” which means “the woman's assurance, trust and conviction of the truth had kept her safe, sound and rescued from danger and destruction”; “go in peace” or “pursue, lead, depart and continue on with her journey in tranquility and calmness”. Luke shared how Jesus declared the woman's “trust and confidence” made her well, and she could now continue her life in a state of tranquility and calmness.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus acknowledged the “faith” that was in this woman. Her belief that simply “touching” the hem of His garment would make her well brought forth “healing and peace” into her life. God loves people to trust Him with their troubles, and when they come to Him through His Son Jesus, He becomes the answer to whatever they need. God honors “faith”, and even as this woman had great need, she knew where to take her faith – to Jesus, and those who are wise will do the same with whatever needs arise in their lives.

Next time Luke shares how, “there came one from the ruler of the synagogue's house”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
