The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the people looking for Him, “I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That you also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which has sent me, that of all which he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he said, I came down from heaven?”, and in chapter six and verse forty-three of his book, John shared how Jesus tells the people, “murmur not among yourselves” where we read:
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
The verse reads, “Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, ...”. John began with the words, “Jesus therefore answered” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation then, wherefore, consequently and on this account responded and began to speak” “and said unto them” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to the Jewish people the following words”. John shared how Jesus began to “respond” to the suspicious Jewish people.
The verse goes on to say, “... Murmur not among yourselves.” John continued with the words, “murmur not” which means “do not mutter, grumble, confer secretly together or discontentedly complain” “among yourselves” or “with your own selves”. John shared how Jesus told the Jewish people not to “grumble and confer secretly together” with one another.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus responded to the Jewish people's discontent with Him. He instructed them not to “murmur” or “grumble” against Him, and He will tell them why in our next verse. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and when people believe and trust in Him, they establish a personal relationship with God. Anyone who “murmurs” about Jesus does not understand who He is, and they will give an account of their actions some day. Those who are wise will never “grumble” against Jesus but accept Him to receive forgiveness for their sins and everlasting life with God.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells the people, “No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
