The Father Loves the Son - John 5:20

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told a man who was crippled to “rise, take up your bed and walk”, and “immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day:it is not lawful for you to carry your bed. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up your bed, and walk. Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto you, Take up your bed, and walk? And he that was healed did not know who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise”, and in chapter five and verse twenty of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does” where we read:

For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does:

and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

The verse reads, “For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does:”. John began with the words, “for the Father” or “because, since and on account that the Father God” “loves the Son” which means “has affection toward, delights in and approves of the Son Jesus”, “and shows him all things” or “and manifests, exposes and gives evidence to the Son Jesus everything” “that himself does” which means “that the Father God His own self performs and produces”. John shared how God “loves” His “Son” Jesus and exposes everything that He does to the Son.

The verse continues, “... and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.John added the words, “and he will show him” which means “and the Father God will expose to His Son Jesus” “greater works than these” or “and larger in number, more numerous and abundant acts and deeds than the miracle performed on the man with the infirmity”, “that you may marvel” which means “so the Jewish people may wonder and be in admiration”. John shared how Jesus said His Father God would expose even “greater” “acts and deeds” to Him, and the Jewish people who observe them will “wonder” at the sight of them.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how God's relationship with His Son is very intimate. Not only does the “Father” “love” the “Son”, but He reveals to His Son Jesus whatever He performs and produces. Jesus told the Jewish people who persecuted Him and desired to kill Him that God His Father was going to “show” Him even “greater works” than they had already seen. God's work upon the earth was performed through His Son Jesus to demonstrate that He was and is the Messiah sent from God. God wants a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their life to Him, He promises to forgive their sins and give them everlasting life. Let all who read these words know there is an intimate relationship between God the Father and Christ the Son, and everyone who submits to Him may have an intimate relationship with Him as well.

Next time see John shares how Jesus tells what He does, “as the Father raises up the dead and makes them alive”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
