The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he said unto Philip, Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little”, and in chapter six and verse eight of his book, John shared how, “ Andrew, Simon Peter's brother” began to respond to Jesus where we read:
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said unto him,
The verse reads, “One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, ...”. John began with the words, “One of his disciples” or “a certain and particular one of Jesus' students, pupils and attendants named”, “Andrew” which means “manly”, “Simon Peter's brother” or “Andrew was the male sibling of Simon which means a rock or stone whose other name was Peter which means little rock or stone. John shared how a particular “one” of Jesus' “students” whose name was “Andrew” and was the “brother” of “Simon Peter” began to speak to Jesus.
The verse goes on to say, “... said unto him,” John added the word, “said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” or “to Jesus”. John shared how “Andrew” spoke to Jesus and declared the words in our next verse.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we discover how another one of Jesus' disciples got involved in this quest for food to feed the multitude around them. Jesus was “trying” Philip with His question about where to buy bread to feed everybody, but since He already knew what He was going to do, Jesus waited for His disciples to get involved. God loves to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they yield their life to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will be forgiven of their sins, inherit everlasting life with God and be enjoined within His Kingdom to produce wonderful works and deeds.
Next time John shares how Andrew says, “there is a lad here, which has five barley loaves, and two small fishes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
