The apostle John wrote how people were observing the sea, and “stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone.(Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias near unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-four of his book, John shared how the people, “came to Capernaum seeking for Jesus” where we read:
When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples,
they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
The verse reads, “When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, ...”. John began with the words, “When the people therefore” or “at the time and moment the people both men and women then, wherefore and consequently” “saw that Jesus was not there” which means “observed, noticed and discerned that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation was in no way in that place or location”, “neither his disciples” or “no and not even Jesus' students, pupils and attendants”, they took the following action. John shared how the people were “looking for” Jesus and His disciples, but did not find them anywhere upon the opposite side of the “sea”.
The verse continues, “... they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.” John added the words, “they also took shipping” which means “the people even so and indeed began to sail”, “and came to Capernaum” or “and arose and appeared at the city of Capernaum which means village of comfort”, “seeking for Jesus” which means “looking for the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. John shared how the people began to “sail” their boats to “Capernaum” because they were continuing to look “for Jesus”.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how the people so desired to see Jesus that they followed Him to the city of Capernaum located on the other side of the “Sea of Galilee”. Jesus was attractive to people, and we shall see why in our next verses, however, those who learn about Him through the “Holy Scriptures” will find Jesus to be wonderful company. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of every person who yields their life to Him, and when they believe and trust in Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him forever. Let all who read these words “seek for Jesus”.
Next time John shares how the people asked Jesus, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
