The Bread Which Comes Down From Heaven - John 6:50

The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the people looking for Him, “No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes unto me. Not that any man has seen the Father, save he which is of God, he has seen the Father. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me has everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead”, and in chapter six and verse fifty of his book, John shared how Jesus told the people, “this is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat … and not die” where we read:

This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

The verse reads,This is the bread which comes down from heaven, ...”. John began with the words, “this is the bread” or “therein lies the food and nourishment” “which comes down from heaven” which means “that descends and comes forth from the region above the sidereal heavens which is the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. John shared how Jesus said He was God's “spiritual nourishment” that “descended” from the “Heavenly region”.

The verse goes on to say, “... that a man may eat thereof, and not die.” John continued with the words, “that a man may eat thereof” which means “in order that a person whether male or female may consume and devour of the spiritual nourishment sent from Heaven”, “and not die” or “and in no way perish, be slain or be subject to eternal misery in hell”. John wrote how Jesus continued with the idea that a person could “partake” of Him, the “spiritual nourishment”, and never “perish”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus declared Himself to have “descended” from the “Heavenly region” so people could partake of Him and never have to “die” spiritually. God intended for people to live forever, and spiritually, they do. They will either spend their “eternal life” with God in Heaven, or be separated from God in hell forever more. Jesus came so everyone would have an opportunity to know Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and all who put their faith and trust in Him will be saved. Jesus came to “save” everybody, and those who are wise will yield to Him and never “die”.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells the people, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
