The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself. And has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-eight of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “marvel not at this” where we read:
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
The verse reads, “Marvel not at this:”. John began with the words, “Marvel not” or “do not wonder or be in admiration” “at this” which means “to the idea of Jesus being given all authority and judgment from His Father God”. John shared how Jesus told those listening to Him not to “wonder” that “power and authority for judgment” was given to Him by His Father God.
The verse continues, “... for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,” John added the words the words, “for the hour is coming” which means “because, since and on account that the specific time and moment is arising and appearing”, “in the which all” or “that each, every, the whole and everyone who” “are in the graves” which means “are within the memorials, monuments, sepulchers and tombs” “shall hear his voice” or “will be endowed with the faculty for hearing, perceiving, understanding, noticing and discerning the Son of God's speech, utterance, decree and mandate”. John shared how Jesus said the “time” was to appear when every person who is in the “sepulchers and tombs” will perceive His “mandates and decrees”.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how no one, dead or alive, will escape the “words” of Jesus. In other words, all people will give an account to Him. Those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life, and those who refuse and reject Jesus will stand before His “mandates and decrees” to answer for their rejection of Him. Let all who read these words “hear” the words of Jesus now, before it is too late, and submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time John shares how Jesus says, “and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
