Where Shall We Buy Bread? - John 6:5

The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was near”, and in chapter six and verse five of his book, John shared how Jesus asked His disciple named Philip, “where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” where we read:

When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he said unto Philip, Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

The verse reads, “When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he said unto Philip, ...”. John began with the words, “When Jesus” or “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “then lifted up his eyes” which means “at that time raised His physical eyes”, “and saw a great company” or “and observed, perceived, noticed and discerned a large and massive group of people” “come unto him” which means “approaching and coming forth to Jesus”, “he said unto Philip” or “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciple Philip whose name means lover of horses”. John shared how Jesus observed a large group of people approaching Him and asked His disciple named “Philip” the following question.

The verse continues, “... Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?John added Jesus' words, “where shall we buy bread” which means “in what place or location will we purchase or redeem flour mixed with water and baked”, “that these may eat” or “so this large crowd of people may consume and devour the bread”? John shared how Jesus asked “Philip” in what place they could purchase “bread” to feed all the people.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was watching this group of people who were approaching Him, and He wanted to “feed” all of them. His question to His disciple named “Philip” concerned the location they might purchase food for them. God desires to supply the physical and spiritual needs of every person, and when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they may be assured of the forgiveness of their sins to inherit everlasting life with Him. Let all who consider Jesus' question to “Philip” and realize Jesus was ready to supply both the physical and spiritual needs of the people.

Next time John shares how Jesus asked Phillip this, “to prove him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
