The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples”, and in chapter six and verse four of his book, John shared how, “passover … was near” where we read:
And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was near.
The verse reads, “And the passover, a feast of the Jews, ...”. John began with the words, “And the passover” or “and the paschal sacrifice which was accustomed to be offered for the people's deliverance of old from Egypt”, “a feast of the Jews” which means “a festival and holy-day which belonged to the nation of the Jews as respects to birth, origin and religion”. John shared how the “paschal sacrifice and festival” which belonged to the Jewish nation was according to his next words.
The verse goes on to say, “... was near.” John continued with the words, “was near” which means “was imminent and soon to come to pass”. John shared how the time for the “feast of passover” was close at hand.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn the timing for Jesus to be in the mountainous area of Galilee near the location of the “sea of Tiberias”. Jesus had a multitude around Him, and He ministered to them by “healing the ones with disease”, and He will do more for them in our next verses. Jesus loved people, and His Father God loves people so much that He sent His Son Jesus to “die” for their sins and be resurrected from the dead so they might live with Him forever. Those who are wise will understand even the “timing” for this event was important to Jesus, and He will use it to demonstrate He is the Christ, Messiah and Son of God of the world.
Next time John shares how Jesus asked His disciple Philip, “where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
