The apostle John wrote how people were observing the sea, and “stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone.(Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias near unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:) When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when did you come here? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, You seek me, not because you saw the miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-seven of his book, John shared how Jesus told the people, “labor not for the meat which perishes” where we read:
Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life,
which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him has God the Father sealed.
The verse reads, “Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, ...”. John began with the words, “labor not for the meat” or “do not work or exercise toil for food” “which perishes” which means “that becomes marred, ruined and destroyed ”, “but for that meat” or “nonetheless and moreover for the food which refreshes and nourishes the soul” “which endures” which means “that remains, abides, tarries and never departs” “unto everlasting life” or “toward never ceasing, eternal life without end”. John shared how Jesus told the people not to “strive and work for” the “food” that ruins and is destroyed, but for the “food” that lasts forever.
The verse goes on to say, “... which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him has God the Father sealed.” John continued with the words, “which the Son of man” which means “that God's Son Jesus Himself” “shall give unto you” or “will grant, bestow and provide to the people who search for Him”: “for him has God the Father sealed” which means “because, since and on account that Father God marked, impressed a stamp upon, confirmed and attested”. John shared how Jesus declared how His “Father God” will grant the “eternal nourishment” to the people who look for Him because His Father God “confirmed and attested” it.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was more interested in the “everlasting life” of the people seeking Him than He was their temporary fleshly fulfillment. God knows people will live forever, and though they die physically, their spirits will continue. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to “save” people for all eternity, and when they put their faith and trust in Jesus, they will be forgiven of their sins and grant them “everlasting life”. Those who are wise will hear Jesus' words and seek Him for the “everlasting” nourishment that permits them to live with His Father God forever.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells the people, “what shall we do, that we might work the works of God?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
