Some of You Believe Not - John 6:64

John he apostle wrote how Jesus told the people looking for Him, “As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eats me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eats of this bread shall live for ever. These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Does this offend you? What and if you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life”, and in chapter six and verse sixty-four of his book, John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “there are some of you that believe not” where we read:

But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

The verse reads,But there are some of you that believe not.”. John began with the words, “But there are some of you” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a certain number of Jesus' disciples” “that believe not” which means “who do not think to be true, were not persuaded, did not trust or place confidence in Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples that He knew a certain number of His disciples did not trust in or have confidence in Him.

The verse goes on to say, “For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.” John continued with the words, “for Jesus” which means “because, since and on account that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “knew from the beginning” or “understood, perceived, noticed and discerned apart and separate from the origin, principal and chief place” “who they were that believed not” which means “who His disciples were that did not trust in, rely upon, cling to and place confidence in Him”, “and who should betray him” or “and which of His disciples would deliver over treacherously and condemn Jesus Himself to be put to death”. John s”shared how Jesus was aware from the “origin” of all things which of His disciples were not “believers” and also which of them would “deliver” Him over “treacherously” to be put to death.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus not only identified a number of non-believing disciples, but He actually knew which one of them would “betray” Him unto death. The amazing part of this story is that Jesus understood this in advance and still came to the earth to offer salvation to mankind. God so loved every person, that even when they did not believe His words, He came to pay the price for their sins. God wants to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with Him. Let all who read these words “believe” the words of God's Son Jesus and submit their lives to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
