What be that good and fateful day
when all mankind was there
within the thoughts of wounded Christ
whose plan their sins to bear
For those thus lost and far apart
relationship with God
twas none so bad He did not love
to close the gap abroad
The smashing blows the thorn-filled crown
He bore on their behalf
the slashing whips and ridicule
that tore His flesh aback
His mounted corpse nailed on the cross
for all mankind to see
forgiveness there in open shame
that all men might receive
And yet still more abandoned One
whom Father did cry out
Why have you thus forsaken me
removing wretched doubt
And all who thus believe in Him
the sacrifice of awe
receive forgiveness of their sins
eternal life with God
