When Shall These Things Be? - Luke 21:7

The beloved physician Luke shared concerning Jesus, “as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, As for these things which you behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus' disciples asked Him, “when shall these things be?” where we read:

And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be?

and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

The verse reads,And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be?” Luke began with the words, “and they asked him” or “and Jesus' disciples questioned and inquired of Him”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “Master” or “teacher or instructor”, “but when” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at what time and moment” “shall these things be” or “will the destruction of the temple and the throwing down of it's stones happen”? Luke shared how Jesus' disciples wanted to know “at what time and moment” the tearing down of the “temple” in Jerusalem would happen.

The verse goes on to say, and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?” Luke continued with the words, “and what sign” or “and what mark, token or unusual occurrence” “will there be” which means “will happen” “when these things” or “at the time and moment the destruction of the temple and the throwing down of the building stones” “shall come to pass” which means “will happen and come into existence”? Luke shared how Jesus' disciples wanted to know what “token or unusual occurrence” would happen at the time the destruction of the temple and the throwing down of the building stones came into existence.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the disciples of Jesus' interest in the timing of the events of which Jesus spoke. Because the disciples of Jesus thought He would be coming into His earthly Kingdom shortly, they desired to know when all these things would happen. God has His timing for everything, and although the destruction of the temple did not occur for a few more decades, Jesus' words would be fulfilled. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they place their future in His hands. God knows when, what, where and how things will come into people's lives, and they do best to submit themselves to His Son Jesus and His plan.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “Take heed that you be not deceived”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
