Men's Hearts Fail for Fear - Luke 21:26

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus told His disciples, “when you shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-six of his book Luke shared how Jesus says, Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earthwhere we read:

Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

The verse reads,Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth:” Luke began with the words, Men's hearts failing them” or “the fainting, expiring or swooning away of human beings whether male or female” “for fear” which means “because and from the origin of dread, alarm and exceeding terror”, “and for looking after” or “and expectation and anticipation” “those things which are coming” which means “the events, calamities, diseases and impending occurrences” “on the earth” or “upon the world”. Luke shared how Jesus said people would “faint” with “fear” because of the cataclysmic events happening in the world.

The verse continues, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Luke added the words, “for the powers” or “because, since and on account that the strength, ability and force” “of heaven” which means “belonging to the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “shall be shaken” or “will it be put in motion, agitated and tottered”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “force and strength” of “heaven” will be “tottering and agitated” during the times of “signs” upon the “earth”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the effect these cataclysmic events will have upon people. Jesus said people will be so “afraid” they will “swoon”. Jesus gave the warnings concerning these things in advance because He loves people, and His desire is to “save” them from their sins and have them rely upon Him regardless of the events that surround them. Those who are wise will be well advised of the events to come, and put their faith and trust in Jesus who is able to keep them through all of them.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
