Wars and Commotions - Luke 21:9

The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus, “said, Take heed that you be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draws near: go you not therefore after them”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “you shall hear of wars and commotions” where we read:

But when you shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified:

for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

The verse reads,But when you shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified:” Luke began with the words, “but when” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at the time and moment” “you shall hear of wars” which means “you, disciples of Jesus, are given the capacity for hearing, perceiving, discerning and discovering battles, fights, disputes, strifes and quarrels” “and commotions” or “and instabilities, states of disorder, disturbances and confusions”, “be not terrified” which means “do not be scared, afraid and frightened”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples not to be “frighted and afraid” when they hear of “battles, fights, instabilities, disturbances and confusions”.

The verse goes on to say, for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.” Luke continued with the words, “for these things” or “because, since and on account that wars and commotions” “must first come to pass” which means “shall most certainly happen and come into existence”; “but the end” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the termination and limit at which all things cease to be” “is not by and by” which means “does not immediately, straightway and forthwith occur”. Luke shared how Jesus said “wars and commotions” had to happen first, but the termination of all things will not immediately appear.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how there will be “wars and commotions” within the world before the “end” of it occurs. Jesus told His disciples not to be “afraid” when they saw these things coming to pass because they were part of the process for the end of all things. Because people were in need of forgiveness of their sins which would forever separate them from God, He sent His Son Jesus into the world as the “Savior”. Those who are wise will submit themselves to Jesus and be aware of all the things which must “come to pass” before the end appears.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
