Your Enemies Your Footstool - Luke 20:43

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus asked the religious leaders, “How say they that Christ is David's son? And David himself said in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand, ...”, and in chapter twenty and verse forty-three of his book Luke shared how Jesus continued with David's words, “Till I make your enemies your footstool” where we read:

Till I make your enemies your footstool.

The verse reads,Till I make your enemies ...” Luke began with the words, “till I make” or “Until I, God the LORD, set, put or lay down” “your enemies” which means “the Lord Jesus' foes, hateful and hostile ones” the following. Luke shared how Jesus referred to where the Psalmist said the “Lord” would be seated upon the right hand of God until God made His “foes” as the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... your footstool.” Luke continues with the words, “your footstool” or “the Lord's vanquished one”. Luke shared how Jesus said the Psalmist declared that God Himself would have Jesus' “foot” upon the necks of His “enemies”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus referred to the Psalmist's declaration that “The Lord”, who was Jesus, would be “seated” at God's right hand of honor and reverence until the time when His “foes” would be “under His feet”. In other words, the Lord will conquer His enemies, and those who “oppose Him” shall be “set down”. God's desire is for every person to yield their lives to His Son Jesus so they may live with Him forever. Those who are wise will understand that God will put all the “foes and opponents” of Jesus under “His feet”, and they shall be as His “footstool”. Let all who read these words submit their lives to Jesus.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus asks, “David therefore called him Lord, how is he then his son?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
