Blessed Be the King that Comes - Luke 19:38

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus' disciples brought a young donkey,to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. And when he was come near, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, and in chapter nineteen and verse thirty-eight of his book Luke shared how the multitude began to say, “Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord” where we read:

Saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

The verse reads,Saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord: Luke began with the words, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “Blessed be the King” which means “praise, celebration and blessings be to the leader of the people, prince, commander and lord of the land”, “that comes” or “who rises and appears” “in the name of the Lord” which means “by that which is used for everything which the name covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering belonging to the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how the multitude began to declare “praise and adoration” to Jesus who was labeled as the “King” who appears in the Lord's name.

The verse goes on to say, peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.Luke continued with the words, “peace in heaven” or “tranquility, calm, harmony and concord within the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “and glory in the highest” which means “and honor, splendor and brightness in the most region of God”. Luke shared how the crowd declared “tranquility and calmness” within “heaven” and “praise and honor” in the place of the most High God.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn what the crowd shouted as Jesus made His entrance into Jerusalem upon a “young donkey”. They called out that He was to be “praised and honored” as the “ruler and Lord” of them because His arrival meant there would be “tranquility and calm” within the “heavenly region” and “honor and splendor” in the Most High region of God. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who recognize Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and receive “everlasting life” with God. Let all who read these words join the crowd and give “blessing, honor, splendor and glory” to Jesus Christ and God the “Most High”.

Next time Luke shares how, “some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke your disciples”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
