Well Said - Luke 20:39

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus continued to speak to the Sadducees by saying, “Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty-nine of his book Luke shared how, “certain of the scribes answering said, Master, you have well said” where we read:

Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, you have well said.

The verse reads,Then certain of the scribes answering said, ...” Luke began with the words, “then certain of the scribes” or “at that time particular ones of the men who were learned in the Mosaic law and in the sacred writings and served as interpreters and teachers” “answering said” which means “responding and beginning to speak to Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Luke shared how “particular scribes” began to respond to Jesus' answer about God being the “God of the living”.

The verse goes on to say, “... Master, you have well said.” Luke continued with the word, “Master” or “teacher and instructor”, “you have well said” which means “you, Jesus, have beautifully, excellently and rightly uttered, declared and proclaimed” your words. Luke shared how the “particular scribes” admitted that Jesus had spoken rightly concerning God being the “God of the living”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “certain scribes” who heard Jesus' answer concerning God declared that He spoke correctly. Even though they were opposed to Jesus and the Sadducees wanted to “catch” Him in His words, these religious leaders had to admit that He was right. God is the “God of the living”, and what a person does with his or her life on earth will determine how their soul shall live throughout all eternity. God wants people to live with Him in Heaven, and the only way to gain access to Heaven is through a relationship with His Son Jesus who came to save people from their sins. Jesus died on the cross and was raised to life again so people could live forever with God, and those who are wise will yield their lives to Him while they live so they may know Him after they take their last breath.

Next time Luke shares, “after that they did not ask him any questions at all”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
