Nations and Kingdoms Rise Against One Another - Luke 21:10

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus' disciples asked Him, “Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? And he said, Take heed that you be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draws near: go you not therefore after them. But when you shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse ten of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” where we read:

Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

The verse reads,Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, ...” Luke began with the words, “then said he unto them” or “at that time Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “nation shall rise” which means “multitudes of the same nature and genus will arouse and be stirred up” “against nation” or “in opposition to other multitudes of the same nature and genus”. Luke shared how Jesus said people groups within their “tribes or nations” would rise up in opposition to one another.

The verse continues, “... and kingdom against kingdom:” Luke added the words, “and kingdom” or “and royal powers, kingships, dominions and rules” “against kingdom” which means “in opposition to other royal powers, kingships, dominions and rules”. Luke shared how Jesus said “royal powers” would rise up against other “royal powers”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how there will be “nations” that will “be stirred up” against one another, and “kingdoms” within the world would “be stirred up” against each other as well. In other words, battles and fightings will be heard about from all over the world. There have been and there are going to be “wars, commotions, fightings and battles” everywhere, and people will oppose one another violently. Though these are sad events, Jesus said they will occur before the “end comes”. God's desire is to save people from their sins and give them eternal life with Him. Only when a person yields their life to Jesus will they know the “peace” of God He desires for every person, and those who are wise will yield themselves to Him.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
