A Third Servant Sent and Wounded - Luke 20:12

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus began, “to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty”, and in chapter twenty and verse twelve of his book Luke shared how Jesus tells how the owner of the vineyard, “sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out” where we read:

And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.

The verse reads,And again he sent a third:” Luke began with the words, “And again” or “and yet another time” “he sent a third” which means “the owner of the vineyard dismissed and dispatched a third servant” to the field. Luke shared how Jesus said the “owner” of the “vineyard” dispatched a “third servant” to receive what was due him from his field.

The verse goes on to say, and they wounded him also, and cast him out.Luke continued with the words, “and they wounded him also” or “and the tillers of the field or vine dressers even so and indeed traumatized and inflicted injuries and lesions upon the third servant”, “and cast him out” which means “and threw and drove the servant out of the vineyard”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “vine dressers” “inflicted injuries” upon this “third servant”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how yet another “servant” was “beaten” by the vine dressers of this owner's field. Rather than give the “servant” the “owner's portion” of the fruit produced, they “beat” him and treated him in a “spiteful” manner. God is the “owner” of the world, and the “fruit” of His vineyard are the “souls” of people who submit themselves to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Anyone who opposes those who bring the message of “salvation” through Jesus Christ are like these “vine dressers” who “beat and mistreated” the “servants”. When the final judgment is brought by the “owner” of the vineyard, woe be to those who bring adversity against the “servants” of the Most High God.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says the owner of the vineyard asks, “what shall I do? I will send my beloved son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
