All Seven Brothers Dying without Children - Luke 20:31

Luke the beloved physician how there came to Jesus, “certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. And the second took her to wife, and he died childless”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty-one of his book Luke shared how the religious leaders say, “the third” and “the seven” took her, “and they left no children” where we read:

And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

The verse reads,And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also:” Luke began with the words, “and the third took her” or “and the third brother possessed, acquired and married the first brother's widow”; “and in like manner” which means “and in the same likeness and way” “the seven also” or “all seven brothers even so and indeed possessed, acquired and married the first brother's widow”. Luke shared how the “Sadducees” said the “third” and all the “seven brothers” “married” the first brother's widow.

The verse goes on to say, and they left no children, and died.” Luke added the words, “and they left no children” or “and all seven brothers were childless and without progeny and offspring by her”, “and died” which means “and expired, took their last and perished”. Luke shared how the “Sadducees” said all “seven brothers” married the one woman, but none of them had “children” through her.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn the rest of the “Sadducees” story concerning this “brother's widow”. One would think each subsequent brother would be very nervous about marrying this woman who seemed to have every husband die, however, the “Sadducees” were not so much interested about these relationships whether they were true or “fabricated” because they intended to “catch” Jesus in His words concerning the “resurrection”. Many people attempt to “prove their point” by arguing with the ways of God, but He is always right and no one is able to “fool” Him with their stories or words. God loves people, and when they submit themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they not only are forgiven of their sins, but they may be assured He will provide “resurrection” to everlasting life for their future.

Next time Luke shares how the religious leaders say, “last of all the woman died also”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
