The Lord of the Vineyard's Revenge - Luke 20:16

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus began, “to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?”, and in chapter twenty and verse sixteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus said the lord of the vineyard, “shall come and destroy these husbandmen” where we read:

He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others.

And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

The verse reads,He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others.” Luke began with the words, “he shall come” or “the lord of the vineyard will arise and appear” “and destroy these husbandmen” which means “and render useless, abolish, put to an end and ruin the tillers of the field or vine dressers”, “and shall give the vineyard” or “and will grant, bestow, furnish and supply the field of vines” “to others” which means “to different people who would be the tillers and vine dressers”. Luke shared how Jesus answered His own question saying the “master” of the vineyard would “come and destroy” his original “vine dressers” and give his “vineyard” to other people who would manage it the way it was supposed to be managed.

The verse goes on to say, And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.” Luke continued with the words, “and when” or “and at the time and moment ” “they heard it” which means “the chief priests, scribes and elders were given the faculty of hearing, perceived and understood what Jesus said”, “they said” or “the religious leaders uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “God forbid” which means “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit prohibit and disallow it”. Luke shared how the “religious leaders” told Jesus “God should disallow and prohibit” the thought that the “master” would “destroy” the “vine dressers”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “religious leaders” responded to Jesus when He told them the “master” of the vineyard would “destroy” his original “vine dressers”. This “parable” was too close to the way the “religious leaders” cared for the Kingdom of God, and they knew Jesus was inditing them for their lack of service. God's desire is to have every person in His Kingdom through a relationship with His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they become children and servants in His field, the world. Those who are wise will yield their lives to Jesus and become servants who are loyal to the “gospel” of God's Kingdom.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus asks, “what is this then that is written, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
