A Master Who Does Not Know These Things? - John 3:10

John the apostle shared how Jesus told Nicodemus, “Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell from where it comes, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?”, and in chapter three and verse ten of his book, John shared how Jesus asked Nicodemus, “Are you a master of Israel, and know not these things?” where we read:

Jesus answered and said unto him, Are you a master of Israel, and know not these things?

The verse reads, “Jesus answered and said unto him, ... John began with the words, “Jesus answered” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded and began to speak” “and said unto him” or “and uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked” “Nicodemus” the following question. John shared how Jesus answered “Nicodemus'” question with the following question.

The verse continues, “... Are you a master of Israel, and know not these things? John added the words, “are you a master” which means “do you exist as a teacher and instructor” “of Israel” or “belonging to Israel which means he shall be prince and refers to the family or descendants of Jacob”, “and know not these things” which means “and are unaware, without understanding and do not perceive the concepts of spiritual rebirth”? John shared how Jesus questioned “Nicodemus” concerning his lack of “knowledge and understanding” about being “born again” even though he was a “teacher and instructor” in the land of “Israel”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn from Jesus' question to “Nicodemus” that a person may have a “religious title and position” and still not understand the principle and need to be “born again”. Jesus came to the earth to provide “spiritual rebirth” to every person who will put their “faith and trust” in Him as their personal “Lord and Savior”, and when they yield their life to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with God. This is being “born again” or “born anew”, and the person who yields to Jesus gains a “relationship” with God and His Kingdom. “Nicodemus” could not understand how this worked, and many today do not “understand”, however, being “born again” comes only through “faith and trust” in Jesus, and those who are wise will submit to and receive Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “We speak that we do know and testify that we have seen”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
