Marvel Not - John 3:7

John the apostle wrote, “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”, and in chapter three and verse seven of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “marvel not that … you must be born again” where we read:

Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again.

The verse reads, “Marvel not that I said unto you, ... John began with the words, “Marvel not” which means “do not wonder or admire” “that I said unto you” or “that I, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed to you, Nicodemus” the following words. John shared how Jesus instructed “Nicodemus” not to “wonder” because He told him the following truth.

The verse goes on to say, “... you must be born again. John continued with the words, “you must be born” which means “you, Nicodemus, of necessity and behooving have to be engendered, begotten and birthed” “again” or “from above or a higher place which come from heaven or God and anew”. John shared how Jesus told “Nicodemus” that he should not “wonder” that he “needed” to be “birthed anew from God above”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus emphasized the idea of being “born again” with “Nicodemus”. For “Nicodemus” and any other person to “see the kingdom of God”, they must have their “spirit” made alive by Jesus, and those who believe and trust in God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be “birthed anew” in their “spirit”. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and for that to happen, they “must be born again”. Those who carefully examine Jesus' words should understand this is the only way to “see God's Kingdom” and submit their lives to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “the wind blows where it lists”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
