Jesus and His Disciples at a Wedding - John 2:2

John the apostle wrote, “the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there”, and in chapter two and verse two of his book, John shared how, “both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage” where we read:

And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

The verse reads, “And both Jesus was called, ... John began with the words, “and both Jesus which means “and even so and indeed Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “was called” which means “was invited and bid forth” to attend the “marriage”. John shared how “Jesus” was invited to the following along with others.

The verse continues, “... and his disciples, to the marriage.” John added the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants”, “to the marriage” or “to the wedding feast or feast of nuptials”. John shared how Jesus and His “disciples” were “invited” to the “wedding feast”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn about a “normal activity” in which “Jesus and His disciples” were invited. Jesus came to the world and lived among people with their day to day activities. This was indeed the “supernatural” living within the “natural”, and because mankind needed a “supernatural” work to be saved from their “sins”, Jesus came. More will be written about this “wedding feast” in the next few verses, but for now let it suffice us to know Jesus desired to live among the natural events in life so He could extend an invitation to receive His “supernatural” salvation and eternal life with God.

Next time John shares, “when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
