Testifying of What He Has Seen and Heard - John 3:32

John the apostle shared how, “there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all”, and in chapter three and verse thirty-two of his book, John shared how John the Baptist said concerning Jesus, “what he has seen and heard, that he testifies” where we read:

And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no man receives his testimony.

The verse reads, “And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; John began with the words, “and what he has seen” which means “and that which He, the Messiah and Christ who is Jesus has observed, noticed, discovered and discerned” “and heard” or “and was given the faculty for hearing, perceiving and understanding”, “that he testifies” which means “which He, the Messiah, bears witness of, affirms and has seen”. John shared how John the Baptist said the Messiah would declare and bear witness of what He has “seen and heard”.

The verse continues, “and no man receives his testimony.”. John added the words, “and no man” which means “and no person whether male or female” “receives his testimony” or “lays hold of, carries, claims or procures that which the Messiah bears witness”. John shared how John the Baptist said no one would “receive or accept” the “witness” of the Messiah.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we earn how the Messiah who comes from “Heaven” would “testify” about what He has “seen and heard” there. However, people would not believe Him. Isaiah the prophet wrote, Who has believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?” in chapter fifty-three and verse one, and the idea was that the Christ would come, but people would not believe Him. Jesus came to the world to “bear witness” of the “salvation” which is provided by God through Him, and anyone who puts their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life. Those who are wise will “receive” Jesus' “testimony” and yield their life to Him today.

Next time John shares how John the Baptist says concerning Jesus, “he that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
