Behold the Lamb of God - John 1:29

John the apostle wrote how John the Baptist baptized and was confronted by religious leaders, “in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-nine of his book, John shared how, “The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God” where we read:

The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God,

which takes away the sin of the world.

The verse reads, “The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, ... John began with the words, “The next day which means “the following sunrise to sunset” “John” which means “Jehovah is a gracious giver and refers to John the Baptist” “saw Jesus” or “observed, noticed, discovered and discerned Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “coming unto him” which means “approaching and coming forth toward Jesus”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Behold” which means “lo, look and consider” “the Lamb of God” or “the Lamb belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how John the Baptist observed Jesus approaching Him the day after the religious leaders were questioning him.

The verse goes on to say, “... which takes away the sin of the world.” John continued with the words, “which takes away” which means “who removes and carries off” “the sin” or “the missing of the mark, the error, mistakes and wrongs” “of the world” which means “belonging to circle of the earth with all it's earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages, pleasures, etc.”. John shared how John the Baptist said Jesus was God's “sacrificial Lamb” who came to “remove” the “sin” in all the “earth”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn as Jesus approached John the Baptist he recognized him. John the Baptist shared how Jesus was God's “Lamb” who was destined to remove the “sin” of the entire world, and since John the Baptist was the “forerunner” to Jesus who is the Messiah and Christ, Jesus' purpose was to make the way for people to have a personal relationship with God. Those who are wise will recognize Jesus like John the Baptist and yield to the “Lamb of God” who “takes away the sin of the world”.

Next time John shares how John the Baptist says, “after me comes a man which is preferred before me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
