Flesh is Flesh and Spirit is Spirit - John 3:6

John the apostle shared how, “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God”, and in chapter three and verse six of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” where we read:

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The verse reads, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; John began with the words, “That which is born of the flesh” which means “the one who is begotten, engendered and birthed pertaining to the soft substance of the living body, which covers the bones and is permeated with blood” “is flesh” or “exists as the soft substance of the living body, which covers the bones and is permeated with blood”. John shared how anyone who is born pertaining to the “physical body” exists as a “physical body”.

The verse continues, “and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John added the words, “that which is born” which means “and the person who is begotten, engendered and birthed” “of the Spirit” or “pertaining to the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son” “is spirit” which means “exists as a spiritual being”. John shared how the person who is “born” of God's Holy Spirit lives as a “spiritual being”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how there is a difference between the person who is “born physically” and the person who is also “born spiritually”. The part of a person that is able to relate to God is known as “the spirit”, and until a person is “born again”, that part of them is dead. They “must be born again”, spiritually, through God's Son Jesus before they can “enter into the kingdom of God”. Jesus will say more about this in our next verse, but for now, let all who read these words seek the Lord Jesus to have their “spirit reborn” and be allowed “entrance” into the wonderful “Kingdom of God”.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “marvel not that I said unto you, you must be born again”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
