Simon - John 1:41

John the apostle wrote how John the Baptist baptized Jesus and said, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said unto them, What are you seeking? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where do you dwell? He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother”, and in chapter one and verse forty-one of his book, John shares how Andrew, “first found his own brother Simon” where we read:

He first found his own brother Simon, and said unto him,

We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

The verse reads, “He first found his own brother Simon, and said unto him, ... John began with the words, “He first found which means “Andrew foremost in importance discovered, detected and procured where” “his own brother Simon” which means “Andrew's selfsame physical brother Simon which means a little rock or stone”, “and said unto him” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to Simon”. John shared how John the Baptist's disciple named “Andrew” who followed Jesus searched for his brother, discovered where he was and proclaimed to him the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.” John continued with the words, “We have found” which means “we, the two disciples of John the Baptist which included Andrew, have discovered, perceived and met with observation” “the Messiah” or “the anointed One, the Christ and the Son of God”, “which is, being interpreted” that means “that is explained and translated into the language of one with whom I wish to communicate”, “the Christ” or “the anointed One, the Messiah and Son of God”. John shared how “Andrew” told his “brother Simon” that he and the other disciples discovered the “anointed One and Christ” of God.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how “Andrew” began to spread the word about he and the other disciple of John the Baptist finding the “Messiah”. “Andrew” was excited about meeting Jesus, and after spending time with Him, he wanted his brother “Simon” to know Him too. Anyone who truly discovers who Jesus is will desire to share Him with others. Jesus is indeed the “Christ, anointed One, Messiah and Son of God”, and He came to the world to die for the sins of all mankind. He was raised from the dead three days later, and now all who believe and trust in Him shall be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God.

Next time John shares how Andrew brought Simon, “to Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
