Jesus' Disciples Remember and Believe - John 2:22

John the apostle shared how Jesus drove out merchandisers, the animals and the money changers who were in the temple, and afterward leaders of the Jews asked Jesus, “What sign show you unto us, seeing that you do these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and will you rear it up in three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body”, and in chapter two and verse twenty-two of his book, John shared when Jesus, “was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them” where we read:

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

The verse reads, “When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; John began with the words, “when therefore he was risen” which means “at the time then, wherefore, accordingly and consequently that Jesus was resurrected and arisen” “from the dead” which means “apart and separate from the non-living, without breath and those who have breathed their last”, “his disciples” or “Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “remembered” which means “recalled and brought back to mind” “that he had said this unto them” or “how Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed the idea of Him having zeal over the temple to His disciples”. John shared how Jesus' “disciples” recalled that He told them He would have “zeal” over the “temple” of God.

The verse goes on to say, “and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.” John continued with the words, “and they believed” which means “and Jesus' disciples thought to be true, placed confidence within and trusted” “the scripture” or “the written Holy Writ”, “and the word” which means “and the speech, utterance, decree, mandate and order” “which Jesus had said” or “that Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed”. John shared how Jesus' “disciples” “trusted and placed confidence within” the “Holy Writ” and what Jesus told them.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how the “disciples” of Jesus “trusted in” the “Holy Scriptures” and “word of Jesus” after He was resurrected from the dead. Their understanding was opened, and they knew what the “scriptures” said and what Jesus proclaimed were true. God wants people to “believe” the “scriptures” and what He has proclaimed through them. Jesus came to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and anyone who “believes and trusts” in Him will be “saved” from the penalty of sin which is death. They shall also receive “everlasting life” with God. Let all who read these words “believe”.

Next time John shares when Jesus, “was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
