John the Baptist's Two Disciples Follow Jesus - John 1:37

John the apostle wrote how John the Baptist baptized Jesus and said, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-seven of his book, John shared how, “the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus” where we read:

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

The verse reads, “And the two disciples heard him speak, ... John began with the words, “and the two disciples which means “and John the Baptist's two students, pupils and attendants” “heard him speak” which means “were given the faculty of hearing, perceived and understood John the Baptist's words and utterances”. John shared how “two” of John the Baptist's “students” “understood and perceived” what he meant about Jesus being the “Lamb of God”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and they followed Jesus.” John continued with the words, “and they followed” which means “and John the Baptist's two students accompanied and joined as attendants to” “Jesus” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. John shared how John the Baptist's “two disciples” “joined” themselves to Jesus as He walked along.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we discover how “two” of John the Baptists “attendants or students” responded to him acknowledging Jesus as the “Lamb of God”. Rather than continue with John the Baptist, these “two disciples” left him and began to “follow” Jesus. Jesus is the One every person should “accompany”, and although God uses people to be “teachers, prophets and apostles”, Jesus take preeminence over them all. John the Baptist exalted Jesus as “God's Lamb” which pointed these “two disciples” to Him, and those who are wise will not only “follow” Jesus, but they shall be involved in pointing others to Jesus as well.

Next time John shared how, “Jesus turned, and saw them following”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
