Let God Deliver Him - Matthew 27:43

Matthew the apostle wrote, “then were there two thieves crucified with” Jesus “one on the right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, You that destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself. If you be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse forty-three of his book, Matthew wrote how, “He trusted in God; let him deliver him now” where we read:

He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

The verse reads, “He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him:Matthew began words, “He trusted” which means “Jesus had faith and confidence” “in God” or “the the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”; “let him deliver him now” which means “allow and permit God to rescue Jesus at this time and moment”, “if he will have him” or “whether God will think Jesus to be true, be persuaded of Jesus and have confidence in Him”. Matthew shared how the “religious leaders” continued to mock Jesus by referring to the way Jesus “trusted God”, and they challenged “God” to rescue Him if He could be convinced Jesus was worth saving.

The verse goes on to say, for he said, I am the Son of God.” Matthew continued with the words, “for he said” or “because, since and on account that Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I am the Son of God” or “Jesus Himself was God's Son”. Matthew shared how the “religious leaders” recalled that Jesus proclaimed Himself to be “the Son of God”, and they used His statement as the basis for Him to “save Himself”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we remember Jesus confirmed the high priest's question of Him (See Matthew 26:63,64), and because He did, the “high priests, scribes and elders” threw it back at Him. God so loves people that He allowed His Son to continue on the cross until He paid the price for the sins of all mankind, and rather than rescue Him, God paved the way of “salvation” for all people. May all who read these words recognize and understand how God did not “save” Jesus because He wanted to “save” every person through the death of His Son.

Next time Matthew wrote how, “the thieves also … cast the same in his teeth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
