Luke the beloved physician how there came to Jesus, “certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage. But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty-six of his book Luke shared how Jesus continues, “neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels” where we read:
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels;
and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
The verse reads, “Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels;” Luke began with the words, “neither can they die any more” or “no and not in any way are the people in Heaven able to perish, expire, breathe their last and be lifeless any longer”: “for they are equal” which means “because, since and on account that those who go to Heaven are in likeness” “unto the angels” or “to the messengers and envoys of God”. Luke shared how Jesus said the people who go to Heaven will never “die” again because they will be like the “angels” of God.
The verse continues, “and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” Luke added the words, “and are the children of God” or “and the people who go to Heaven exist as the offspring and progeny belonging the the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “being the children” which means “existing as the offspring and progeny” “of the resurrection” or “pertaining to the rising of the dead”. Luke shared how Jesus said the people who are “deemed as worthy” of Heaven exist as “God's children” because they are the “offspring and progeny” of “rising from the dead”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see more benefits to having a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. No one on their own is “worthy” to receive “everlasting life” with God in Heaven, however, when they put their faith and trust in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will be “granted” eternal life as though they are “deserving”. The relationship with Jesus becomes the “access” by which people become “God's children”, and they will be “resurrected” from the dead. For all eternity a person who yields their life to Jesus will live as the “children of God and the resurrection” and be blessed to live forever with God.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus talks about the idea, “that the dead are raised”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
