Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus told His disciples, “you shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “there shall not an hair of your head perish” where we read:
But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
The verse reads, “But there shall not ...” Luke began with the words, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be declared takes precedence over what was just declared, “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover” “there shall not” which means “there will in no way and not at all” exist the following. Luke shared how Jesus declared though His disciples would be “hated” by “all men”, the following would happen to them.
The verse continues, “... an hair of your head perish” Luke added the words, “an hair” or “a single physical hair” “of your head” which means “upon the disciple of Jesus' physical head” “perish” which means “be destroyed, abolished, rendered useless or put to an end”. Luke shared how Jesus said not a single “hair” upon His “disciples'” “head” would be “rendered useless or destroyed”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus promised that “not a single hair” of His disciples would be “destroyed” because of their belief and trust in Him. Although people are “detested” because they believe and trust in the “gospel” and the principles of the Kingdom of God, God promises to preserve them. God wants an eternal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus and those who yield their lives to Him shall have even the “hairs” on their heads preserved in this world until their time to be with Him has finally arrived.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “in your patience possess you your souls”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
