The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus began, “to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?”, and in chapter twenty and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder” where we read:
Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken;
but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
The verse reads, “Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken;” Luke began with the words, “whosoever shall fall upon that stone” or “whatever person whether male or female who prostrates themselves on that building rock” “shall be broken” which means “will be shatter or dashed to pieces”. Luke shared how Jesus said whatever person “prostrates themselves” upon the “building stone” that was rejected but became the “head of the corner” will be “shattered”.
The verse continues, “but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” Luke added the words, “but on whomsoever” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover on whatever person whether male or female” “it shall fall” which means “the rejected building stone will prostrate itself upon them”, “it will grind him” or “the building stone will crush the person upon whom the stone falls” “to powder” which means “to pieces”. Luke shared how Jesus said if the “building stone that was rejected and became the head of the corner” were to “fall upon” any person, that person would be “crushed” into “pieces”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how there is a price that is paid by the person who “cast themselves” upon the “building stone” that was rejected and became the
“head of the corner”. However, if that same “stone” were to “fall upon” them, it will “crush” them to “pieces”. God's Son Jesus is the “stone” that was “rejected and refused” by people, however, He is the One to whom people must believe and trust for “salvation”. When they submit their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, they may have “tribulations and trials”, but the Lord will sustain them. However, if a person refuses and reject Jesus as their “Savior”, there will come a day when His judgment shall “crush” them into pieces.
Next time Luke shares how, “the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
