Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus continued to speak to the Sadducees by saying, “Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, you have well said”, and in chapter twenty and verse forty of his book Luke shared, “after that they did not ask him any questions at all” where we read:
And after that they did not ask him any question at all.
The verse reads, “And after that they did not ask him ...” Luke began with the words, “and after that” or “and beyond that time” “they did not ask him” which means “the Sadducees, scribes and religious leaders did not question or inquire of Jesus” the following. Luke shared how the “religious leaders” stopped asking Jesus the following after He answered them so well.
The verse continues, “... any question at all.” Luke added the words, “any question” or “not even one inquiry or wonder” “at all” which means “completely”. Luke shared how the religious leaders did not bring any more “inquiries” to Jesus.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus answered the “Sadducees” and “religious leaders” in such a complete and thorough manner that they stopped asking Him anything else. Because Jesus responded to every attempt to “catch” Him in His words, the “religious leaders” failed every time. Jesus is God incarnate, and He created everything in the world. He is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. No one is stronger, more powerful, smarter or wiser than Jesus, and when these “religious leaders” attempted to “fool” or “trap” Him in His words, they were greatly over-matched. God desires to have a personal, loving relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, they align themselves with the God of the Universe who is able to bring to a “halt” every line of questioning any person may have.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus asks, “how say they that Christ is David's son?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
