Departing without People Knowing - Mark 9:30

Mark wrote how a man brought his son to Jesus who was “mute” from an evil “spirit”. Because Jesus' disciples could not cast the “spirit” out, they asked Jesus, “Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty of his book, Mark shared how Jesus and His disciples,“departed from there … and would not that any man should know it” where we read:

And they departed from there, and passed through Galilee;

and he would not that any man should know it.

The verse reads, “And they departed from there, and passed through Galilee; Mark began with the words, “and they departed” which means “and Jesus and His disciples left and went forth” “from there” or “separated and apart from the house where there were”, “and passed through” which means “proceeded at the side of” “Galilee” or “the name of a region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan”. Mark shared how Jesus and His disciples were on the move again, and this time they were leaving the house in the area near the mount of transfiguration and going “through Galilee”.

The verse continues, and he would not that any man should know it. Mark added the words, “and he would not” which means “and Jesus did not want” “that any man” or “that any person whether male or female” “should know it” which means “to perceive, understand or be aware of it”. Mark shared how Jesus did not want anyone to know that He was passing through the area of “Galilee”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus and His disciples moved from the mount of transfiguration area to pass “through Galilee” again. God's desire was to have people know Him through His Son Jesus, and when Jesus completed His ministry in one area, He would go to another. People around the world need to know about the “Savior Jesus' love” and commitment to rescue them from their “sins”, and those who yield their lives to Him shall receive “everlasting life” with God.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “the Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
