Jesus Lift Up the Possessed Boy - Mark 9:27

Mark wrote how a man with a son who was possessed by a spirit that made the boy mute and threw him into convulsive attacks said to Jesus, “Master, I have brought unto you my son, which has a dumb spirit. And wheresoever he takes him, he tears him: and he foams, and gnashes with his teeth, and pines away: and I spake to your disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.” Jesus responded by saying, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it has cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if you can do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help my unbelief. When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, You dumb and deaf spirit, I charge you, come out of him, and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-seven of his book, Mark shared how,“Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up” where we read:

But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

The verse reads, “But Jesus took him by the hand, ... Mark began with the words, “But Jesus” which means “however, nonetheless, nevertheless, moreover and Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “took him” or “grasped and caught the boy” “by the hand” which means “by his physical hand”. Mark shared how Jesus grasped the boy by his “hand”.

The verse goes on to say ... and lifted him up; and he arose. Mark continued with the words, “and lifted him up” which means “and caused the boy to rise and be raised up”; “and he arose” or “and the boy rose up and stood forth”. Mark shared how Jesus “raised up” the boy by his “hand”, and the boy stood within the presence of the multitude.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus raised the boy to his feet by taking him by his “hand”, and the boy “stood” before Him and the entire crowd of people. Jesus overpowered the “evil spirit” within the boy which demonstrated His power over the “demonic” world. John the apostle wrote, “the thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (See John 10:10), and those yield their lives to Jesus realize not only how powerful He is, but also find Him able to “rescue mankind” and give them everlasting life.

Next time Mark shares, “when he was come into the house, his disciples asked … Why could not we cast him out?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
