The One Who Ministers Will be Great - Mark 10:43

Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “You know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them”, and in chapter ten and verse forty-three of his book, Mark shared how Jesus taught His disciples, “whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister” where we read:

But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

The verse reads, “But so shall it not be among you:” Mark began with the words, “But so shall it not be” which means “however, nevertheless, nonetheless, moreover and the lordship over others will not exist” “among you” or “with Jesus' disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus said “lording” over others would not be part of what His disciples do.

The verse continues, but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: Mark added the words, “but whosoever” which means “nevertheless, notwithstanding whatever person whether male or female” “will be great” or “will be predicated of rank, eminent for ability, virtue, authority and power” “among you” which means “with Jesus' disciples”, “shall be your minister” or “will exist as the disciples' servant, attendant or slave”. Mark shared how the “greatest” among Jesus' disciples will be the one who “serves” the others.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how this is a totally different system than the “Gentile system” or the “world's way”. The world puts people in positions above others, and others serve Him or her, but Jesus' system has the one on “top” “serving” all those below. God loves people, and He has served them by sending His Son Jesus to be their “Savior and Lord”. When they submit their lives to Him by trusting and believing in His Son Jesus, they become the “servants” of God and others in the world. Positionally they are God's children, and functionally they are His “ministers”. Let all who read these words hear and understand the “upside down” Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “whoever of you will be the chief, shall be servant of all” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
