We Have Left All and Followed You - Mark 10:28

Mark wrote how Jesus, “said unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answered again, and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them said, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-eight of his book, Mark shared how Peter said, “we have left all, and have followed you” where we read:

Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed you.

The verse reads, “Then Peter began to say unto him, ... Mark began with the words, “then Peter” which means “even, also and indeed Peter whose name means little rock or stone” “began to say” or “initiated speaking and started to utter, declare and proclaim” “unto him” which means “to Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciple “Peter” reacted in words to Jesus' statement about “trusting in riches” with the following statement.

The verse goes on to say, Lo, we have left all, and have followed you. Mark continue with the words, “Lo, we have left all” which means “behold, look and see, Jesus' disciples have gone away, departed and let go of each, every, the whole and everything”, “and have followed you” or “and have accompanied, joined as a disciple and followed as an attendant Jesus”. Mark shared how Peter declared how he and the other “disciples” left “everything” to “follow after” Jesus.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus spoke up after all of Jesus' disciples responded in “panic” to Jesus' words concerning it being “impossible” for mankind to “save” himself eternally. Peter noted how he and the other disciples did not “hold on” to their “riches”, but rather “followed” Jesus. God the Father loves people to have an understanding about “all things” since they actually His, and those who are wise will never attempt to keep that which will never last for that which shall never end. In other words, when we “follow Jesus”, “everlasting life” with God the Father will be ours.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus speaks about, “what a man leaves” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
